Ceramic Coating vs PPF: What's the Difference?

Both protect paint, but against different things.
Ceramic coating vs PPF
Ceramic coating is a thin liquid layer that protects against UV, chemicals and grime and adds gloss and water beading. PPF (paint protection film) is a thick urethane film that physically absorbs rock chips and scratches. Coating is far more affordable for full coverage; PPF is best for high-impact areas.
| Ceramic coating | PPF | |
|---|---|---|
| Stops rock chips | No | Yes |
| UV & chemical protection | Yes | Yes |
| Gloss & beading | Excellent | Good (better if coated) |
| Typical cost (full car) | $500–$2,000 | $4,000+ |
Can you use both?
Yes — many owners put film on the front bumper and hood, then coat the whole car. Slums installs ceramic coating; we don't install PPF.
