The wrong cleaner can bleach cloth or dry out leather. Here's how to clean seats without causing new problems.
How do you clean cloth car seats?
Vacuum first, pre-treat stains with a fabric-safe cleaner, agitate gently with a soft brush, then extract the dirty water with a wet-vac or extractor. Avoid soaking the foam — over-wetting causes mildew and water rings.
How do you clean leather seats?
Use a pH-balanced leather cleaner and a soft brush, wipe with a microfiber, then apply a non-greasy conditioner. Never use household all-purpose cleaners or magic erasers on leather — they strip the protective finish.
Common stains
- Coffee/soda: blot, then fabric cleaner and extraction
- Grease: degreaser on a towel, not sprayed directly
- Ink: often needs professional treatment
- Kid mess: handled as a condition add-on ($25–$50)
