Bird droppings are acidic and tree sap hardens in the sun. Both can permanently etch paint if left too long.

How do you remove tree sap from a car?

Soften the sap with a dedicated sap remover or isopropyl alcohol on a microfiber, let it dwell, then lift — never scrape. For bird droppings, soak with a wet towel for a few minutes and wipe gently. Remove both as soon as possible, ideally within a day.

When it has already etched

A dull ring left behind means the clear coat is damaged. Light etching can often be polished out; deep etching can only be improved. A ceramic coating gives you more time before damage happens.

Questions people ask
