How to Remove Hard Water Spots from a Car

Washing in the sun or sprinklers hitting your car leaves minerals behind. Left alone, they etch into the clear coat.

How do you remove hard water spots?

Fresh spots come off with a quick detailer or a diluted vinegar solution. Bonded spots need a dedicated water-spot remover. Spots that have etched into the clear coat require machine polishing to level them out.

How to prevent them

  • Wash in the shade and dry immediately
  • Use a drying towel, not air drying
  • Protect paint with sealant or ceramic coating
